The shipping supplies that you choose to wrap and ship your items in will make all of the difference in the world. If you use the wrong shipping products, the items that you're shipping may not make it to their destination in one piece. Here, you'll find a few tips to help you pack up your products to protect them during transport.

Bag the Item

Before you put anything in a box, it should be placed in a bag. The bag will help to protect the item from moisture damage as it's being transported. You never know what will happen between point A and point B, so preparing for the worst is best. Sometimes, packages are left out on a porch or in a yard until the recipient picks them up. If it's raining, the bag will help to keep everything dry.

Pad the Item

You'll have all kinds of padding packing material to choose from—bubble and foam wrap or packing peanuts are the most popular. Bubble wrap works very well to protect many items, but the bubbles can pop if the package is not packed tightly enough. Foam wrap is awesome for a first layer of padding, but you'll likely need additional peanuts or paper if the item is breakable. Packing peanuts are great for filling the voids in boxes that have any type of item in them. It's still best to wrap fragile items in bubble or foam wrap before placing it in the box with the peanuts as the peanuts can shift around and leave the item unprotected.

Box the Item

Anything that could become damaged while being transported must be packed in a box that allows for a few inches of space on each side. That space will provide the item the cushion that it will need in the event that a heavy box is placed on top of it and the box gets slightly crushed. The voids in the box can be filled with shipping paper or packing peanuts, but don't ever rely on packing air bags to pad breakable items—they do pop sometimes and cause large gaps in the box allowing the item to bounce around.
